“I am a beautiful person and I deserve to be treated kindly. I am loved, and I love myself.”

That’s how I treat myself. I always feel like I am on top of the world when I treat myself to a pampering session. My work as a social media practitioner leaves me with tired skin after late nights on Twitter or sore buttocks after sitting it out for five hours. Self-pampering is not about being selfish. It’s about loving yourself and treating yourself as kindly as you treat others. I believe that I deserve this ME time for myself. It doesn’t have to be a huge amount of time, even an hour or two will do.

A few weeks ago, I visited the Timog-based SvelTi Health and Beauty Center for a series of skin rejuvenation treatments for my “pamper me day”.  I was told  that I would be having Revlite,  a new pampering experience that I have never tried yet.

SvelTi’s holistic approach aims to remove or reduce a particular patch of complaint, but it adds something extra by rejuvenating the skin and the surrounding areas, giving the patient a fresher look and a bouncier step to go along with it. I took a photo of myself as I prepared for my soothing indulgence.

What makes their approach even easier and faster is the use of the non-intrusive Revlite machine which emits laser light pulses to address the underlying reason behind the skin condition.  A nurse handles the Revlite machine.

The pulses pass through the surface of the skin and makes contact with the underlying epidermis. They stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, natural substances produced by the body that bring vitality while countering the effects of aging. The reduction of fine lines and wrinkles is immediately visible and, more important, long-lasting, as the fresh supply of collagen helps in preventing a recurrence.

Before the Revlite treatment was done to me,  I read up on the other benefits it can do. Revlite has been proven effective in treating more serious skin conditions like lesions, hardened pigmentations, and the accumulation of melasma on the face. In these cases, the laser light pulses actually target and hit the discoloration or pigmentation and shatter them, breaking them into small, unseen particles. These dark shards then fade back into the skin which absorbs them through its natural cell production, never to be seen again. The natural color of the skin takes over and covers the area which once was full of hardened black spots. I have some melasma on my face and I hope with subsequent treatments, this will be reduced.

Dra. Salazar claims“The effects of the Revlite treatment are visible and can be seen after one session. This treatment is also appealing to our hardworking professionals because one session takes only at most half an hour. There is no down time, no surgical procedure. Afterwards, they can go back to their office or the next meeting with their skin looking fresh and a bit more attractive.”  What a relief. I did not want a downtime since I had a meeting after lunch.

Goggles are placed on my eyes to protect my eyes.  I smell burnt hair when the treatment started.  There is a  mild sting on the skin though. Ideally , one should not have sun exposure after the treatment but since I had to be out after lunch, a sunscreen with a 50 SPF was applied to my face.

Dra. Salazar adds, “To enjoy the full effects of the treatment and get full healing or restoration, the patient would have to undergo a series of sessions. The number of sessions will depend on the gravity of her skin condition, and the beauty and wellness-related goals she wants to achieve.”

Reality is that my melasma won’t disappear in one treatment. I need to have it treated in a series of sessions.
