Beauty sleep

align="left" />I cannot live with less than 8 hours of sleep. I get cranky and less productive with work. The problem with me is sometimes I get caught up with work that I forget the time. This happens whenever I develop a website. That’s why I don’t accept web development projects anymore. I must have 8 hours of sleep. When I was much younger, I could get by with 6 hours of sleep and still feel bright and vibrant. Perhaps it’s my age. No sleep means no new brain cells

The researchers compared animals who were deprived of sleep for 72 hours with others who were not. They found those who missed out on rest had higher levels of the stress hormone corticosterone. They also produced significantly fewer new brain cells in a particular region of the hippocampus.

When the animals’ corticosterone levels were kept at a constant level, the reduction in cell proliferation was abolished.

The results suggest that elevated stress hormone levels resulting from sleep deprivation could explain the reduction in cell production in the adult brain.

and get this . Too little sleep may make you fat. You know I always thought that the less one sleeps, the more calories spent and one would expect to lose weight. During the week where I had less sleep, the weighing scale refused to budge lower and worse , I even gained some weight.

They found that, even after factors such as depression, physical activity, alcohol consumption, ethnicity, level of education, age and gender had been taken into account, people were more likely to be obese the less sleep they had.

While those who had less than four hours sleep were most at risk, people who got only five hours of sleep were 50% more likely to be obese than those who were getting a full night’s rest.

There’s a reason for my beauty sleep entry. Ever since Humphrey arrived in our life, my sleep hours have been pretty much disturbed. It feels like I have a new baby. Every so often, Humphrey wakes up to check if I am around. Humphrey sleeps in our room just below my bed. I wake up at 5:00 AM to bring him to “go poop” or “pee”.

Tonight he will sleep outside my bedroom so I can catch up with my sleep. Also, I wouldn’t want him to get used to this bed time routine. We need our privacy too.

I need to sleep now.
