I first encountered the luxury brand, Hervé Léger in this photo of Jeanette Napoles as she celebrated her extravagant birthday party with friends. Most renowed style-setters like Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Diane Kruger , Miranda Kerr and Jennifer Lopez embrace this brand. They can very well afford it. Many eyebrows were raised when Jeanette Napoles posed with this dress since her mother figured in the pork barrel scandal.
Those who can afford Hervé Léger will be happy to know that the brand is finally in Manila, opening its only store in Asia. Hosted by Tim Yap, the ribbon cutting by Vicki Belo was witnessed by bloggers, media, Hervé Léger ambassadors and stylish guests.
As soon as the ribbon cutting was done, Jane and I went inside to check out why Herve Leger is such a luxury brand. I went through the collection wondering about the quality of the clothes. The Hervé Léger is designed with the “infamous, body contouring dress in mind, seamlessly sculpting the female silhouette with signature banding construction”.
The designs are made from elastic bandages hand-stitched together and are very unique.
Originally founded in 1985, Hervé Léger was acquired by BCBGMAXAZRIA group where designer , Chairman and CEP Max Azria brought new life to the label with his own fabulous creations. But I was curious of Herve Leger origins.
This website explains more about the history of Herve Leger.
His dresses are made of bands of stretch fabrics, wool, or silk woven with Lycra or Elastene, wound around the body for a tight fit. At fashion shows his designs are one-of-a-kind, made to a couture standard, each one designed for the body that could wear it.
But how did Herve Leger get his inspiration?
In 1989 Leger’s new collection was to be presented to the fashion world. Leger had not had any inspiration, he wanted a new look, a show-stopper for his finale. He was pacing up and down his studio. He picked up some seam bindings and began to wind them around a mannequin like an Egyptian mummy. This was the inspiration he needed and the beginning of his famous stripes. His trademark is now fabrics mixed with Lurex, Lycra, Elastene, stretch fabrics wound around the body for a tight fit.
Herve Leger once said “I like to make women look beautiful, who want to please and be noticed”.
No wonder the overall-look is just so gorgeous. Jane and I asked Heart if she felt comfortable with her radiant orchid dress. She said she loved the form and fit. She does look good.
Even Tessa Prieto looked fabulous in her orange dress.
There are just so many colors and designs to choose from depending on one’s taste.
An orange skirt.
I love the white piping here.
The most affordable item here is this black swimwear, which cost around 38,000 pesos.
Including this yellow swimwear.
A Herve Leger label tag is quite distinctive .There is a serial number sewn into the side of each Herve Leger label. If the price tag has a serial card, the dress ALWAYS has a serial number sewn into it as well. This website teaches you to distinguish between a fake and an authentic Herve Leger label tag.
Of course, the best way is to buy at licensed retailers. The Manila boutique is located at the upscale East Wing of Shangrila Plaza mall.
Hervé Léger is now open at Level 1, Atrium, East Wing Shangri-la Plaza, Corner Shaw Blvd, Mandaluyong.
