The introduction to Bobbi Brown makeup came into my life when my daughter Lauren ( who blogs about beauty and fashion at iambourgeois.com) gave me a Bobbi Brown lipstick for Christmas in 2010. My daughter uses the brand more than I do though but after today’s book launch, I am going to head off and see what suits me.

Bobbi Brown’s seventh book , Pretty Powerful: Beauty Stories to Inspire Confidence, the beauty guru hand picked celebrities, athletes, and everyday women to pose product-free and undergo makeovers tailored to their personalities, “This is not just a how-to makeup book even though it’s instructional. This book is really about starting a conversation about real women and how we feel about ourselves without makeup and in general,” Brown said, “The whole idea is for women not to be hard on themselves.”

I love the Bobbi Brown makeup philosophy. Not that I need to use makeup to look beautiful. Makeup merely enhances the beauty inside. It is also pretty fun thing to do.

Bobbi Brown takes a unique approach in “Pretty Powerful” by categorizing women tinto styles that reflect their personalities and their looks – natural, radiant, strong, classic, authentic, bold. Within each of these sections, women who have that certain style are grouped– Philanthropist Lauren Bush heads up the Pretty Natural crowd; Pretty Radiant opens with actress Gabourey Sidible: Boxer Kesiher “Dire” Mcleoed-Well introduces Pretty strong; Pretty classic begins with model Nancy Donahue; Author Lee Woodruff sets up Pretty Authentic; and singer Estelle launches Pretty Bold.

This is an excerpt from the book “Pretty Powerful”.

As a makeup artist, beauty expert, and a woman, I understand what it takes to feel and look good. It takes an incredible amount of hard work (as does everything that’s worth doing) – you have to eat right, exercise regularly, learn how to apply your makeup, and get dressed even on days you’re not feeling your best. But first and foremost, feeling good requires an upbeat attitude, confidence, and a wicked sense of humor. And that’s what “Pretty Powerful” is all about.

This book is more than gorgeous photos. It’s a book about incredible women and their inspiring words. It includes application techniques you can use at home and personal stories that will inspire you to be your best, most authentic self. Creating “Pretty Powerful” was an unforgettable experience; I had the honor of working with an amazing collection of women, each celebrating life and full of energy and confidence. My hope is to help women everywhere understand that being who you are is the secret to lasting beauty – and that all of us can be both pretty and pretty powerful.

Maybe I can classify myself as Pretty radiant? or Pretty strong? It depends entirely on my mood for the day. One thing for sure I know I am pretty cool, right? Well one needs to exude confidence to feel beautiful.

Kai Vinson, Director of Artistry and Education shared some tips on using the blush, eye color and even smokey eyes. I loved the pretty natural look which works best for me during day events.

I never seem to master the art of applying blush color. A neat tip is to smile while applying the blush to the apple of the cheeks. Kai Vinson says that instead of applying lipstick to freshen up, one can use blush to look less tired.

Here is a video I took of this short tutorial on applying blush and lip color.

Smokey eyes is an eye makeup that my daughter taught me two years ago during the photo shoot of my silver wedding anniversary. Kai shows us the latest Bobbi Brown smokey brush to apply this technique.

It is good to know that the Pretty Powerful provides readers with makeup tricks and tops that they have come to expect from Bobbi. Most of all, it also delivers the uplifting message that all women are beautiful.

Kai also introduced to us the Caviar and Oyster and Holiday 2012 Collection . Bobbi’s inspiration for this season started with a black motorcycle jacket and a piece of delicate pink satin. Seeing the two items together prompted her to create the Caviar & Oyster Palette, featuring shades of shimmering pink, rich caviar and pearlescent silver. Offering eight shadows and a sheer highlighter, this beautifully edited palette combines different textures and finishes to create a multitude of party and special occasion looks.

Bobbi Brown Caviar and Oyster Palette is a great holiday gift idea for women who would love to wear soft yet bold statement shades.

Check out the Bobbi Brown’s new Holiday collection which makes a great gift for your girlfriend, sister, aunt, mother , or bestfriend.

I can’t wait to read this “Pretty Powerful book”. The message behind the book is inspiring.

“The message behind “Pretty Powerful” is simple: All women are pretty without makeup and can be pretty powerful with even just a touch of makeup.”
