The purifying ritual of the steam bath

I look forward to my “pamper me time” at the gym and the steam bath at my fitness club. It is a time to meditate and stretch my tired muscles. The steam bath is a place to be after a great workout. A place of relaxation and introspection.

Just staying 15 minutes in the steam room opens pores, increases sweating, stimulates circulation, and eliminates toxins. Before I enter the steam room, I “shower with a gentle exfoliating scrub to prevent clogging and sweat-trapping that could lead to heat rash.” I then shampoo my hair and wrap a towel around it after applying my Dove hair treatment and of course, wrapping my body.

Though the gym has a Sauna room, I still prefer the Steam bath. While inside the steam room, I do a lot of body stretching . I find this quite comforting. I cover my face with a towel and then reflect on the great workout I did. I imagine a healthy body and mind. I think of serenity. Letting go of my worries and let God. This is my meditation time.

It is said that the ” cleansing of your body before you sauna or soak in a tub is a ritual that cleanses your mind of stresses before you enter the hot bath.” I definitely agree. I stay in the steam room for 15 minutes and take a warm shower after. I then gently exfoliate again to remove dead skin cells. After the shower , I apply moisturizer while skin is still damp.

Such a ritual of a great workout and a steam bath after is such a stress buster. I should be heading off to my gym now.

Tell me, do you enjoy hot baths at the gym?
