Discovering my Enneagram type

Do you know your basic personality type? Well, I have never attached a label to my personality . An opportunity presented itself when I was told to take the Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI) Sampler for a strategy planning , I was curious.  I was told that “knowing our numbers helps us understand and work with each other better.”

The  Enneagram type indicator sampler test is  basically an online personality test but this sampler may not be a guarantee of your basic personality type. The Enneagram can be seen as a set of nine distinct personality types, with each number on the Enneagram denoting one type. The nine types are

1 Reformer
2 Helper
3 Achiever
4 Individualist
5 Investigator
6 Loyalist
7 Enthusiast
8 Challenger
9 Peacemaker

It is common to find a little of yourself in all nine of the types, although one of them should stand out as being closest to yourself. This is your basic personality type.

The 36 questions in this free Enneagram test are only a small portion of the full, independently scientifically validated 144-question RHETI personality inventory, which Time magazine selected as one of the top online personality tests. Short personality quizzes such as this cannot guarantee that your basic personality type will be indicated, although your type will most likely be in the top three scores in this personality test. We recommend that you read the summary descriptions of the Enneagram types to further narrow down which is your basic personality type. Much more thorough descriptions of the types are provided with the full RHETI Enneagram test.

I took the Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI) Sampler and the results?

The Achiever
The adaptable, success-oriented type. Threes are self-assured, attractive, and charming. Ambitious, competent, and energetic, they can also be status-conscious and highly driven for advancement. They are diplomatic and poised, but can also be overly concerned with their image and what others think of them. They typically have problems with workaholism and competitiveness. At their Best:: self-accepting, authentic, everything they seem to be—role models who inspire others.

The sampler test showed that my highest score was “The Achiever”. It may or may not define who I really am. It comes close though. I read that “not everything in the description of your basic type will apply to you all the time because you fluctuate constantly among the healthy, average, and unhealthy traits that make up your personality type.” I don’t think I am status-conscious because I dislike attention to myself if I can help it. It can’t be helped sometimes that I may cross certain people if I make an opinion or stand that is uncomfortable.  At my age, I don’t drive myself to the point of tiring myself out. Maybe when I was younger, I worked a lot . When motherhood came, I knew I had to give up my job because my work might be a priority more than my children. This is one reason I became a full-time homemaker . I never regretted that decision.

I realize that “unlike the full RHETI, this short, fun personality test is NOT scientifically validated”. The site cannot “guarantee the accuracy of the results of the personality analysis produced by this short personality quiz — only that it can help you begin your journey of self-discovery!” They recommend that you go on to take the full Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI) since this  scientifically validated test is much more accurate in determining your Enneagram type than the short test I took.
